I know I said we were turning the plant off…. but Mother Nature had some different ideas for us. Since it has been so cold, our ice is still perfect! So we are open for ice rental in accordance to Alberta Health updated guidelines. So far we are able to rent to hockey groups of 10 plus coach, kids 18 and under.
If you know of any teams that are looking for ice, please pass our info on.
It seems like just yesterday we worked so hard on putting the ice in and boom, it’s time to take it out. We were holding out for news that the COVID protocols would be lifted and we could utilize our ice, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen. So we have made the difficult decision to take the ice out now. It is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but with no income coming in we just can’t justify the cost of keeping the plant going.
We are looking forward to the fall when we can put the ice back in and enjoy all the hockey!!

On November 18, 2020 we hosted the Region 5 AAAS meeting (Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies). It felt so good to get back in the kitchen! The meal we offered included our home made burgers with a few extras; fried mushrooms, bacon, fried onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles plus potato salad, caesar salad, and coleslaw. For the dessert, Carrie made chiffon cake served with whipped cream and berries. The meal was a big hit!! The meeting was very informative as well.
Thank you to Gail & Carrie for organizing, Gene for cooking, Matt, Mike, Sarah, Toni & Elaine for helping out.

Thank you so much to our volunteers who helped put in the ice on Saturday. This is the first time in a long time we didn’t have our fearless leader Clint there to guide us (he had family commitments), but the volunteers pulled us through. Thanks to Nicole and Mike Suchy from Holden Minor Hockey, Patrick Flemming, Jesse and kids from Pond Hockey and Carl Pipke from Iceholes. We are excited to have ice in and finally get some hockey going.
Gail Alger, Carrie Hrabec and Toni Cheremshynski made fresh burgers for the group to complete the day.
Wayne is updating the paint job on our Zamboni so it will look pretty for this season.
The big question these days, other that hows harvest going, is are we putting ice in??
YES!! We are planning to put our ice in! We are aiming for a Nov 1 start date and excited for a new hockey season. We will be working hard to maintain COVID protocols so we are not sure how things are going to look. Our plan so far is to have LOTS of time between teams so that we can clean the dressing rooms and bleachers. We will get more details as we get closer.
Once harvest is done, we will be looking at doing our steak dinners again. Again we will be following COVID protocols so we are exactly sure how that is going to look.
